The differences between our drying towels
15 November 2024
Since we introduced The Big Green Sucker way back in 2016, we've been constantly on the look out for a towel that sucked even better and held even more water. We were always disappointed with the different options out there, including the twist pile loop microfibre technology of the time - we always found these first iterations of the twist pile material to be great at the beginning, but it quickly lost its absorbency after a few uses and washes, and this just wasn't good enough for us.
Recently however, a new type of twist pile loop microfibre became available and so we began testing, and what we found was this new type of twist loop material was superior in every way to the older technology - more absorbent, lasts longer, holds more water, softer material and better quality too.
With this discovery, it's meant that we've expanded our range of microfibre drying towels over the last 18 months using this amazing new type of material.
So, what are our towel offerings, and how do they all differ?
The Big Green Sucker - Ultra soft, plush microfibre for a super safe drying experience.
Our original drying towel. Easy to use, decent size, huge GSM/super absorbent, long lasting and most importantly, very plush to minimise the chance of grit and grime induced swirls and scratches from ever occurring. The Big Green Sucker was specially designed with a thicker, 1200 GSM split microfibre that has the tips of the fibres “flagged" to aid in faster water absorbency. 70cm x 40cm in size with a huge surface area for water to reside in, but also a large contact area as you run over your car. Works even better when paired with Boss Gloss sprayed into the towel as a drying aid.
Twisted Pro Sucker - Large 1600GSM twist pile microfibre sucks water fast!
A manageable 70cm x 50cm in size that's dual-sided to hold a huge amount of water - nearly 5 litres in our tests! It's constructed with our tried and tested micro-soft edging and stealth stitching, with no stitching across the centre that you may see on other lower quality towels. This drying towel is a key component to ensuring a great, safe drying experience every single time. It uses a premium quality, super thick 1600 GSM twist pile weave microfibre with amazing absorbency. With no tricks, we can easily get two large cars done with this one towel, and even three has been possible numerous times as well. We can assure you that you'll have never sucked like this before!
Twisted Mother Sucker - Huge 90cm x 60cm single sided towel with hand pockets for fast drying of large vehicles.
The perfect drying towel for those with a bigger 4WD, truck, van or boat who lust for a faster and easier drying experience. It's a true water holding champ that sucks up every droplet in its path to leave a lovely, spot & lint-free finish. We have also given this larger towel two "handy" corner hand pockets that our team found make it more manageable and faster when doing larger 4WD's, work vans and group cuddles. The pockets make light work of tighter areas like weather shields around windows, barwork, sports bars and snorkels. A BIG 90cm x 60cm size - single-sided material to make it lighter, more manageable, and once it fills up with water it's able to be wrung out, perfect for the bigger drying jobs. It uses a premium quality, 800GSM twist pile weave microfibre with amazing absorbency.
Twisted Little Suckers - Mini twist loop microfibre towels in two colours for drying intricate areas.
Using a single-sided, super absorbent 800 GSM twist pile loop microfibre, the Twisted Little Suckers are perfect for car and bike enthusiasts who want a more complete drying experience by using these for the tight and hard to reach areas, and our larger drying towels for the larger panels and more open areas. They're a handy 30cm x 40cm size for drying intricate areas that large towels can't get to. We've made them in 2 custom colours; dark grey for dirtier areas like wheels and engine bays, then the bright dayglow orange colour to dry more delicate door jamb areas, your bike and everything else! The Twisted Little Suckers are a perfect modern replacement for the much-loved chamois, as the single-sided construction allows the cloth to be wrung out when it fills up with water, meaning you can keep sucking even the wettest of surfaces! It's a great option for those who prefer a lighter and smaller drying towel that can be wrung out.
Big Bugger Chamois + Little Ripper Chamois - Traditional chamois made safer and easier drying.
Our original drying option - the microfibre chamois. These chamois are designed for traditional users seeking a straightforward, effective drying tool. Made from highly absorbent ultra-microfibre, they provides a streak-free finish with ease. The large size allows for extended use without frequent wringing. They can be stored either wet or dry without needing a special container. Unlike some other chamois products, they won't grip onto the paint, helping to preserve your cars wax protection. The Big Bugger Chamois is a huge 71cm x 50cm size with the Little Ripper coming in at 60cm x 35cm.
Care instructions -
For the chamois', you can machine wash if required, but a good thrashing in a bucket of fresh water after each use, is usually adaquete enough to keep them in good working order.
The Big Green Sucker and other twist pile loop towels should be washed after each use with the microfibre wash and while they're still damp/wet. Reason we say to wash it so often is that if you use them with the Boss Gloss, it's possible it will make them less absorbent over time if you don't wash them out. Also, any dirt you get in the cloths needs to be removed to allow for the safest wash when you next use them. Be sure to put them in the dryer so they come back nice and fluffy. If you air dry them, the more plush material will usually become all flat and matted and not feel or work as well as it should.
IMPORTANT: With this new type of twist pile microfibre loop, it's important to wash these separately. They're very shy cloths and can pick up lint from other microfibre, so only wash them with other twist pile loop cloths. If you happen to snag one of these cloths on a sharp corner or a badge and pull some of the fibres out, simply snip the offending thread off. These new twist pile loop cloths are made from a very tight weave, so they won't unravel from snipping threads off.
